The monsters of Funk “Schwarzkaffee” have delved deep in the earth to find the precious Funk. Always on the quest to find the more powerful lick, the even fatter groove. In barrels they brought the funky, sparkling substrate to light and now they travel throughout the country to carry others with this specially roasted essence of their feet.
Live and with a 11-headed XXL-Lineup they present unique funk, soul, and Hip Hop creations in highly explosive concerts. They sing, rap, shout and play so passionally that the energy directly runs into the hot dancefoot.
Schwarzkaffee was founded under the Name “Black Coffee” in 2004 on a funk session in Leipzigs jazz and music club “Spizz.” By playing regularly and with changing session artists an extremly groovy, eager-to-jam and well attuned live band grew. Following the motto: “Jazz is the teacher, Funk is the preacher” everybody made their experiences with jazz. Some band members have pertinent references: for example Stephan Krause, the trombonist, studied jazz trombone with Prof. Ansgar Striepens and at the New School University New York with Steve Turré, among others. Hendrick Herchenbach, Bass, toured 1½ years with East German freejazz local figure Gunter Hampel. Domique Ehlert, drums, is the winner of the jazz solo price of the first European Jazz Competition. Sax player Johannes Moritz was the awardee of leipzigs Jazz-up-and-coming-price in 2007. Maike Lindemann was sole lead in the category “Best R’n’B Singer” at the 28th German Rock & Pop Competition in 2010 in Wiesbaden.
Schwarzkaffee consists of a powerful and tone proof crew of singers (Maike Lindemann and Tim Ludwig), a full horn section (Daniel Barke, sax; Johannes Moritz, sax; Stephan Krause, trombone; Konrad Schreiter, trumpet) and a tight rhythm section (Andreas Schwaiger or Dominque Ehlert, drums; Roberto Fratta, perc; Hendrick Herchenbach, bass; Phillip Urban, keys; Raschid D. Sidgi, guitar).
